EM 385-1-1 Requirements

EM-385-1-1 requires contractors to employ a minimum of one competent person at each project site to function as the primary Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO). The SSHO must have completed the following training:

  1. An Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 30-Hour General Industry or OSHA 30-Hour Construction training course or formal training on the subjects covered in an OSHA 30 course

The training consists of 34 modules that have a 5 to 8 question quiz, which must be passed with a 70% or higher. Students are allowed to take the quizzes an unlimited number of times. The course also includes a 25-question final exam, which must be passed with a 70% or higher. The student may take the course as many times as needed.

After successfully completing the course, students will receive an official OSHA Training Institute Education Center completion certificate as proof they finished the course.
